| HOW DO I MEASURE FOR CERAMIC TILE?
Floors
Area is equal to length by width. If your floor is 10 feet long by 12 feet
wide your area is equal to 120 square feet. Area can also be measured in
inches and then converted to square feet. If your floor is 120 inches long by
144 inches wide your area is equivalent to 17280 square inches. Then you take
17280 square inches and you divide by 144 which equals 120 square feet. The
best way to measure an area is to create separate boxes and then total them
together. For instance, if you have an "L" shaped kitchen. You should box the
first area and get a measurement 60" x 72" which equals 4320". Without
overlapping measure the next boxed area, 60" x 96" which equals 5760". The
total of the two areas are added together (4320 + 5760 = 10080) then you
divide 10080 by 144 which equals 70 square feet.
Adding on waste
YOU MUST ALWAYS ADD ADDITIONAL TILE TO YOUR ORDER FOR CUTTING, FITTING AND
WASTE.
If you are installing your floor "straight" then you should add 10% on
to your order. If your area is 90 square feet (90 x 1.1 = 99) you should
order a minimum of 99 square feet. If you are installing your tile on a
"diagonal" or in an intricate pattern, you should add 15%. If your area is 90
square feet (90 x 1.15 = 103.5) you should order a minimum of 103.5 square
feet.
